Dr. Wong Soon May Adeline

Prosthodontist

Dr. Adeline Wong graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and a Bronze Medal in 1994. She was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Health (Singapore) to study in Manchester, UK, and returned with a double Master in Dental Public Health and Prosthodontics.

Prior to The Oral Care Centre (OCC); Dr Wong worked >10yrs in School Dental Service; the National Dental Centre as well as the Dental Centre (NUH), where she gleaned valuable experience in rehabilitating complex cases requiring multi-disciplinary management of patients like those with congenital defects of the teeth; patients who sustained trauma to the orofacial tissues requiring long term staged treatment and geriatric/elderly patients with complicated medical conditions eg dementia; cancer therapy and transplant/dialysis.

Dr. Wong is a fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore), a member of the Prosthodontic Society of Singapore, and a registered Prosthodontist on the Specialist Register (Singapore). Dr Wong is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Dentistry, NUS.

Dr. Wong, together with Drs. Vijayan/Kaan and Yasmin in OCC, have participated in many volunteer dental missions in South East Asia, Nepal; India, Sri Lanka and Zambia since 1998. This involvement in humanitarian missions has bonded this team with similar practice philosophy and ethos, forging close friendships amidst professional respect for each other.

Dr. Kaan Sheung Kin

Orthodontist

Dr. Kaan graduated from the National University of Singapore and completed his orthodontic training in Glasgow, Scotland in 1989. He joined The Oral Care Centre in 2011 after running his own specialist private practice restricted to orthodontics for 17 years.

Dr. Kaan has been teaching at the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore for the past 28 years as a senior adjunct lecturer first in the postgraduate orthodontic program, and now the postgraduate paediatric dentistry program since 2014. Other than managing the more common problem of adolescent malocclusions with the various orthodontic techniques, Dr Kaan has a few special interest areas.

These include:
1. Interceptive orthodontics for young children with developing malocclusions
2. Growth modifications in developing skeletal discrepancies.
3. Combined orthodontic and orthognathic surgical management of adult skeletal discrepancies.
4. Treatment of adults with post-orthodontic relapse, diseased and mutilated dentitions.
5. Multi-disciplinary management with other dental specialties like maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, and pedodontics.

His current passion is offering orthodontics as a possible treatment option for children and young adults with special needs.

Dr. Ng Yuk Ching (Isabelle)

Endodontist

Dr. Ng Yuk Ching was an ASEAN scholar who came to Singapore at a young age and now calls Singapore home. She obtained her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the National University of Singapore (NUS). Upon graduation, she was posted to the School Dental Service and the National Dental Centre Singapore (NDCS), where she was exposed to various dental conditions and emergency management for children and adults. It was during this stint that she discovered her passion for endodontics.

Subsequently, Dr. Ng graduated with a Master of Dental Surgery in Endodontics from NUS and was also conferred a Membership in Restorative Dentistry of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (MRD RCS Ed). She served at NDCS for 10 years and was a visiting specialist until 2014. During her term at NDCS, Dr Ng gave lectures focusing on dental traumatology and pulp regeneration to specialists and general dentists and was involved in educating oral health therapists and dental officers. She was awarded the Singapore Health Quality Service Award in 2011 and 2012.

Dr. Ng is a registered dental specialist in Endodontics with the Singapore Dental Council and a fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore.

Dr. Yasmin Arkum

Periodontist

Dr. Yasmin Akrum graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1992. She then embarked on specialist training and proceeded to complete her Masters in Science (Periodontology) at the Eastman Dental Institute, University of London in 1995.

She returned to government service at the National Dental Centre (NDCS) after a stint in private practice for advance speciality training, research and teaching purposes. Advanced specialty training in gum disease includes stabilization of patients via conservative and surgical treatment to restore function and aesthetics, performing gum and bone grafting, and implant surgery. Multi-disciplinary treatment planning with various dental specialists in different fields in NDCS also reinforced her belief that patients will benefit from more comprehensive and holistic treatment when there is a team of specialists working on their treatment plan.

With that in mind, Dr. Yasmin, together with Dr. Adeline Wong, set up The Oral Care Centre in 2008 to become the multi-disciplinary dental specialist clinic it is today. Dr Yasmin also set up her own specialist clinic, Christchurch Periohygiene, in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2020 but continues to care for her patients in Singapore regularly for their maintenance programme. Her overseas experience has given her valuable insight into different patient management skills, especially in conscious sedation and full-mouth implant therapy.

Dr. Yasmin is a Fellow of The Academy of Medicine (Singapore) and a registered Periodontist on the Specialist Register (Singapore).

Dr. Vijayan Loganathan

Prosthodontist

Dr. Vijayan obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Singapore in 1978 and his Master of Dental Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1982. He spent one year in the Crown and Bridge Department of the University of Zurich, Switzerland, where he further trained in porcelain work and colour.

He has over 40 years of experience in Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics, having worked in the Department of Restorative Dentistry, Dental Division, Ministry of Health, Singapore, and subsequently in Private Practice. Dr Vijayan is also an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Dental Faculty, National University of Singapore. His main interest in clinical dentistry is in crown and bridge prosthodontics, veneers, implants, and dentures.

Dr. Vijayan also travels widely doing charity healthcare trips to provide dental care to the less privileged. He also gives dental talks and holds workshops at organizations to help increase dental awareness.

His other pet volunteer work is with the less privileged children in India and Nepal, which he does together with his immediate family and friends annually in May or June, bringing back a little bit of childhood into their lives.

Dr. Darrell Ong Jun Ming

Dental Surgeon - Special interest in periodontics and implantology

Dr. Darrell Ong earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the National University of Singapore before pursuing a Master of Science in Periodontics at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York City.

He is American board-certified in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry and currently holds the status of Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, as well as being a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
Dr. Ong has presented at numerous local and international conferences, covering topics from implant dentistry to conventional periodontal therapy.

In addition to his practice, which primarily focuses on periodontics and implant dentistry, Dr. Ong serves as a part-time clinical tutor in the Periodontics Department at the National University of Singapore.

Dr. Tan Wee Kiat

Paediatric Dentist

Dr. Tan Wee Kiat, came to Singapore at age 18 from Malaysia to interview for a Singapore Merit Scholarship. At the interview, the panel offered her a scholarship in Medicine which she rejected as she had no inclination towards medicine. The panel liked her spunk and offered her dentistry. After graduating she sponsored herself to train in Paediatric Dentistry at the Eastman Institute of Dental Surgery, London and became the pioneer paediatric dentist in Singapore Public Service.

Dr. Tan was later awarded a scholarship by Ministry of Health, Singapore to study Advanced Paediatric Dentistry at New York University, becoming the first paediatric dentist trained on both sides of the Atlantic & established the inaugural Paediatric Dentistry Unit at the National Dental Centre (NDC) of Singapore.

She held various positions at NDC; KK Women and children Hospital; and NUS dental faculty during her 22 years in public service and received the SingHealth Golden Anchor Award for her pioneering service in 2010.

She continues educating patients through her Instagram handle, @drtanteethtok, and is multi-hyphenated: writer, poet, artist, rock drummer, and aspiring actor.
