Dr Elizabeth Tan
BDS (Singapore), MSc (Paediatric Dentistry)(United Kingdom)Dr Tan received her basic dental training at the National University of Singapore in 1983. After graduation she worked as a dental officer with the Ministry of Health for 2 years, rotating between the National Dental Centre and the Polyclinics. It was at the then Pegu Road Polyclinic (which saw a high proportion of child patients and had a resident paediatric dentist) that her interest in paediatric dentistry was kindled. She then left for private practice where again she was fortunate enough to have worked closely with a paedodontist.
In 1988, she left to pursue her Master in Child Dental Health at Bristol University (UK) and graduated in 1990.
Dr Tan has been specialising in paediatric dentistry since her return. She is a pioneer paedodontist in Singapore and a founding member of the Society for Paediatric Dentistry (Singapore).
She is also actively involved in community service as a founding cum consultant Paediatric Dentist at both the Margaret Drive Special School (since 1994) and the Asian Women’s Welfare Association Welfare School (since 2008).
Dr Tan professes to have no superior skill above her basic specialist training and experience. Through the decades, what gives her the most joy, job satisfaction, and staying power is the pleasure of being around children – with the dental part being a very much appreciated excuse.
