Dr Yasmin Akrum
BDS (Singapore), MSc Periodontics (United Kingdom), FAMS (Periodontics)Dr Yasmin Akrum graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1992. She then embarked on specialist training and proceeded to complete her Masters in Science (Periodontology) at the Eastman Dental Institute, University of London in 1995.
She spent 5 years in private practice before returning to the National Dental Centre (Singapore) for another 8 years. There, she was involved with advanced specialty training, research and teaching. Advanced specialty training includes in-depth management of the periodontitis patient. This refers to the stabilisalisation of patients with periodontitis via conservative and surgical treatment to restore the function and aesthetics, utilising various soft and hard tissue grafting techniques and implant surgery. Multi-disciplinary treatment planning with various dental specialists in different fields enables the patient to receive more comprehensive options to meet their dental needs.
With that in mind, Dr Yasmin, together with Dr Adeline Wong , set up The Oral Care Centre in 2008, which was to become the multi- disciplinary dental specialist clinic it is today. She left The Oral Care Centre in 2013, to live and work in Christchurch, New Zealand to be with her family. She is presently working at Henderson’s Periodontics and Implant Centre in Christchurch and continues to expand her repertoire of skills and training there. Overseas experience has taught her different patient management skills especially in the realm of relative sedation. She returns to Singapore to practice several times a year to continue caring for her patients on their maintenance programme.
Dr Yasmin has been involved in volunteer dental missions to many countries in South East Asia, India, Sri Lanka and Zambia since 1998. It is this and the fact that most of the dental specialists at The Oral Care Centre, are similarly involved in the same humanitarian missions that has bonded this team and forged close friendships amidst professional respect for each other.
Dr Yasmin obtained her Fellowship of The Academy of Medicine (Singapore) in 2007 and is presently a member of the Singapore Board of Dental Specialists. She is also a registered dentist on the New Zealand Board of Dental Professionals.
